The client’s property, located on a windswept coastal bluff, had an existing paved area that felt disconnected from the rugged, beautiful ocean view.
The space was functional but lacked character, privacy, and an invitation to pause and enjoy the panorama. The exposed location required a design that was both durable against salt and wind, and respectful of the natural environment.
We engineered and fabricated a custom dynamic, multi-dimensional feature that would act as a gentle screen, a windbreaker, and an artistic element. The design, as seen in the image based on a series of staggered, vertical weathering steel fins.
Fabricated using 6mm x 100mm – mild flat steel designed and fabricated to blend with coastal elements.,
Weathering Steel Fins: The choice of weathering (Corten) steel was pivotal. These steel fins are designed to develop a rich, self-protecting patina of rust, which not only blends seamlessly with the coastal textures of sand and sea but also eliminates the need for painting, making it a low-maintenance, sustainable choice for a coastal environment. The fins were staggered in length and position, creating a sense of movement and allowing views to filter through rather than being completely blocked.

The Coastal Breeze Feature transformed a passive space into an active one. It successfully provided a sense of enclosure and privacy without sacrificing the prized ocean views.
